If you manually backup folders, or perhaps transfer files from portable devices to your HDD regularly, FreeFileSync is a great application for doing the job effectively and efficiently.
While it won't win any beauty contests, FreeFileSync's interface is super functional. Drag and drop folders you want to compare or synchronize, the click the fat buttons to start the process. Compare simply brings up any differences in the two folders, while synchronizing can be done in a variety of ways. 'Two way' will copy or update files from both folders to each other (so both are identical afterwards), 'mirror' overwrites the right folder with the left's content, while 'update' just copies new or updated files to the right folder.
FreeFileSync does its job excellently. It is not automated, but it's quick and easy to use, and asks just the right number of questions before anything happens, so you won't lose files accidentally. You can tell it to use the recycle bin too, just to be on the safe side.
For anyone who wants to synchronize files and folders, FreeFileSync is an excellent choice or application.

ShadowCopy is a simple program that copies all files from one place to another. Other than usual file managers, such as Windows Explorer, it copies all files including locked and open files. This is made possible by using Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services (VSS).
Copy your entire system
You can easily copy the content of an entire hard disk to another disk. If you copy, for example, C:\ to D:\, you will even be able to boot from that drive. Since ShadowCopy is capable of tranferring all the system files you will have an almost exact clone.
ShadowCopy Tips:
You need to make the new partition active (in Windows Disk Management).
You also might need to set a new Disk ID using DriveImage XML.
You will probably have to reactivate Windows and some other copy-protected programs.
Automate ShadowCopy
ShadowCopy can be run from the command prompt, batch or task scheduler. The available switches are:

MP3 music files are a lot like JPEG images: every time they are changed some of the quality is lost. This is because they are compressed files. MP3 Direct Cut can make some basic edits such as cutting out silences or splitting files without affecting quality.
The interface is functional and it does warn that the waveform shown is not the actual audio data. Instead it is the compressed audio data that may not be as accurate. The software recommends using the edit graph to find quiet sections. We didn't experience this problem as the two graphics seem to match up quite well, at least during areas of speech.
Selecting the desired area of audio took a little getting used to but after five minutes or so we were able to remove some spoken introduction from some audio.

The other advantage with not converting the MP3 file into an audio file is that no time is taken re-encoding the edited file.
Other features include editing and normalising the volume of a file and cue sheet support.

MP3 Direct Cut
Creating separate mp3s for each track do this:
1. load the mp3.
2. Select a range: Left mouse button: beginning, right button: end. (selected = bright blue)
3. File -> Save selection ... Do 2-3 for every track separately.
4. Tag + rename the tracks using some other software if wanted.
